Reint Wassink Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Reint Wassink (Harriston, Ontario), who passed away on December 5, 2018 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by : his parents, Reint Jan and Woltera Wassink (Brummelman); and his siblings, Mina Temmink, Fre, Gerrit and Berand Jan.
He is survived by : his wife Roelie Wassink (Kerkdijk); his children, Ron Wassink (Alexandra) of Elora, John Wassink (Emmy Lou) of Gowanstown and Joan Laferriere (Reg) of Hepworth; his grandchildren, Lyndsay, Curtis John, Mark, Vanessa Wassink, Jerusha, Dan Scott, Jared, Meg Wassink, Ian Wassink, Christine Nesseth, Julie Wassink, Justin Jacobs, Zack and Nicolette Wassink; his great grandchildren, Ainsley, Aaralyn, Calia, Kyler, Weston, Ryker, Declan, Maverick and Landry; and his siblings, Wolter, Riek Wassink and Reinie Steezel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
They participated in many community events and parades with their "klompen" dance troupe, and were amateur actors with their Dutch compatriots, performing plays in the Dutch language on-stage at the Harriston Public Library and the Harriston United Church. Reint was very musical and played the coronet in a stage band in Holland. Later, he delighted family and friends many an evening, playing the mouth and button harmonicas at home. Friends may call at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Sunday, December 9th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston on Monday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kathy Morden officiating. Interment in Harriston Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation or to a charity of preference are gratefully appreciated.
