He was predeceased by: his parents, Gaetano Romano and Almerinda Romano; and his wife Helen Romano. He is survived by: his children, Gaetano Romano (Angela Patty) of Gilmour and Diana Mt; his sister Eva Di Luca (Gino) of King City; and his grandchildren, Kyler, Shaye–Lee, Maxwell, Jackson and Gracen.

If desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada.

“Sad, sad news. Heartfelt thoughts to Gaetano , Diana , Eva and family. I remember Elio having all these different sides to him. Tall, cool guy with a wonderful smile, playing drums when he first arrived from Argentina. Always around at family events, helping out, flashing that wonderful smile. And his courage and determination in dealing with Parkinson's - kept moving forward in every way he could - again with that smile. Rest in peace dear cousin. We have sad hearts today.. “Our condolences to Gaetano and Diana and families. Also to Eva and Gino and family. Elio was a special soul — calm and ever present with a smile and warm greeting. As a young man, he cut a cool figure. When he arrived in Canada, I was 6, Elio 17, stove piped with sunglasses and already proficient in English.. He pulled me aside to show me his micro reel to reel tape recorder — that did it for me — a Prince of Cool. Through the years, he fixed the unfixable with grace and patience. A&M 💞”
