He was predeceased by: his parents, Wladyslaw Pokinko and Jadwiga Jablonowska. He is survived by: his wife Danuta; his sons, Tom (Parul), Mat (Wednesday) and Victor; and his grandson Soham.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 14th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Kelly Funeral Home - Kanata Chapel (580 Eagleson Rd, Kanata, ON K2M1H4). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, January 15th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Hyacinth Church (201 Lebreton St N, Ottawa, ON K1R7H9).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in John's honour.
