He was predeceased by: his spouse Fay (Herdman); his parents, Alexander Patterson and Florence Patterson (McCloskey); his brother Russell (Lily); and his siblings-in-law, Don Herdman, Doreen Herdman and Lynn Paterson.

He is survived by: his daughters, Teresa (Sam Lazarevich) of Goderich and Sheryl (Norman Batty) of Fenelon Falls; his sister Sandra Patterson of Lindsay; his brother-in-law Rob Paterson of Simcoe; and his sibling's children, Ken and Karen Dewart.
