He was predeceased by: his wife Catherine Sanders; his significant other Patricia McGinnis Buch; his parents, Hugh McLachlan and Evelyn Zoraida "Jo" Gill McLachlan; and his brother Bill McLachlan.

He is survived by: his children, Alexander "Sandy" (Ashley), Alison (Tadashi Miyajima) and Victoria (Sean Dupel); and his siblings, Ian, Lachlan, Zora and Evelyn.

Donations in Alan's memory to The Kingston Historical Society and The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family.
