Peter Jones wrote a sympathy message

“My deepest condolences to Barbara and the Aitken Family. George was a wonderful friend and professor. As Julian said, we were so lucky to have him as a supervisor and learned so much from him. I'll miss driving down to visit George - we always had such wonderful conversations and sometimes visited the EE dept. taking a tour though the building and looking in what used to be our old Optics Lab. Photo is from Dr Aitken's retirement: me, Mark Jorgenson, Dr Aitken, Julian Meng, Bob Johnson”

“My condolences to the Aitken family. Dr. Aitken was a truly excellent person and we (Peter Jones, Mark Jorgenson, Bob Johnson, Rene Houtman, Brian Lim, Andrew Vignuzzi and myself) were so lucky to have him as a supervisor. We learned so much from him, how to do quality research, write journal papers, give presentations at conferences, and how to carry ourselves as graduate students representing Queen’s University. I am confident that I can speak for us, we are saddened. Regards, Julian Meng.”
