“Debbie, Mal and Cole – Very saddened to hear about George’s passing. I first met George when I was dean of Engineering, and he was VP Advancement. George taught me a great deal about fundraising and let me be my authentic self. He was always his authentic self! He had enormous energy and enthusiasm. I always felt that obstacles made his many journeys more rewarding! He was very proud of his children and his loving wife. Tom Harris”

Lisa Hood wrote a sympathy message

“Sending my heartfelt condolences to George’s family. He was the VP at Queen’s when I started - a green, keen new grad, and I soaked up his advice about the field. It felt like he took a genuine interest in the young people in his team; he reached out again over the years as my career matured, and I moved around. We shared a good laugh when I took my husband’s name, Hood, and he told me I’d always be “Woodcock” to him! What a legacy George has left - so many in our profession owe him. Lisa Hood”

“Deb Mallory, Cole and family. - please accept my condolences on George’s passing. He hired me at Queen’s and was instrument in my appointment at Carleton. He was great leader and teacher and helped shape many careers. I often think of the lessons / stories that George shared with me. George saw something in me and I would not be where I am today without George’s mentorship. I was one of many that George put on a pathway to success. Hood was a boss, mentor and friends and will be missed but his legacy lives on.”

Tom Elliot wrote a sympathy message

“So sorry to hear about George’s passing. My sincere condolences to Debbie & family. I was lucky to reconnect with George recently through a series of zoom calls with Steve, Derrick, Rob & Richard. It might have been 40+ years since high school, but chatting & reminiscing during those calls was like turning the clock back & no time had passed. I raised a glass of fine spirits in George’s honour & thought of our times playing football, his GTO, & our flag re-ownership adventure. What memories.”
