Michel Szczesniak Obituary

Michel Szczesniak died with family around him at Providence Care Hospital on May 22, 2023. He is predeceased by father Orest, and survived by mother Dorothea, sister Kathy (Nancy), wife Gisèle, children Lev, Antoine, Gabriel and Sophie (Jeff), lumpy potato cat Mika, grandcats Nomi and Fia, and 102 garden gnomes.

While in palliative care, family and friends were grateful to share joyful time with him, including storytelling, music-making, drinking strong coffee, and watching favourite movies. During these visits, Michel declined to pick a favourite child and was resolute in declaring his wife cute.

Much gratitude for the excellent care over the past 5 years from his healthcare teams at the Cancer Centre, KGH, at home (CBI) and Providence Care, as well as the unconditional support and love from dear friends, family and colleagues.

He is greatly loved and respected, and will be remembered as a steadfast, humble force of artistic brilliance in the musical community. Lesser-known talents included endless dad jokes, cat whispering, and voice impressions of Sesame Street characters.

He is sorely missed. Rest well.

There are no plans for a memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sistema Kingston, Martha's Table, Kingston Interval House or the Kingston Humane Society.
