He was predeceased by : his parents, Bernadette MacKinnon and Alec MacKinnon; his brother John "Jack" MacKinnon; his brother-in-law James Britt; and his great-nephew Stanley Britt.

He is survived by : his spouse Erin Leffers; his sisters, Fay Britt and Brenda Lumsden (Belmont); his sister-in-law Carmen MacKinnon; his nieces and nephews, Bruce, Linda, Jamie Britt (Eileen), Eddie Britt (Julie), Bob Britt (Laurie), Shane Lumsden (Barb), Brendon Lumsden (Natasha) and Joanna MacKinnon; his great-niece Hillary (Eric); and his great-nephew Pierce (Jenny, family: Evan Britt, Marcus Britt).
