Leo Ovide Sylvester Obituary

Passed away suddenly at the Kirkland Lake Hospital on Friday September 15, 2023 at the age of 77 years with his loving wife Lauraine by his side.

Leo was born at home minutes before his twin sister in Cadillac, Abitibi, Quebec on August 22, 1946. From the age of two years, Leo spent his childhood at mileage 104 Cobalt, and entered the working world at the young age of sixteen. His first job was with Elton McKnight and other jobs working at the Sherman Mine, Latham's, MTO and Birch's. Leo worked across Canada in the Diamond Drill Industry and he also worked as a heavy equipment operator. Leo enjoyed the great outdoors often fishing on Lake Temiskaming, more specifically at 'Sylvester's Rock' at Bucke Park or trying his luck for a nice pickerel at Lady Evelyn. He loved country music and everyone enjoyed listening to him play his guitar and sing.

The Royal Canadian Legion was a big part of Leo's life and he served as President of the Royal Legion Branch 44 Cobalt, for ten years, Service Officer and Deputy K-1 Zone Commander before transferring his membership to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 87 Kirkland Lake.

Leo is predeceased by his parents; by his siblings Rita, Billy, Bucky, his twin sister Leona and by his other twin siblings who were born into God's awaiting hands; by his brothers-in-law John and Leroy; his sisters-in-law Verna and Marlene, his father-in-law Jack. Leo is survived by his beloved wife Lauraine (nee Knight), his sister Diane Sargent, his brother-in-law Dick Morin, his mother-in-law Dorothy Knight, his granddaughter Jenna (Marc Boulay) and his great granddaughters Kimora and Sabrina Boulay. Leo is father to Timmy Sylvester. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Leo was one of the most loving, giving, caring individuals that had an impact on anyone he met. His corny jokes, smile and sense of humor will be remembered by all. Leo will be loved and cherished in the heart of many. FOREVER AND A DAY.

Leo's final care has been entrusted to the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions can made to the Community Cancer Care. Leo's. Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday September 26, 2023 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 87 Kirkland Lake, from 2:00 - 5:00pm.
