He was predeceased by: his parents, Eileen Schmitt and Edward Schmitt; his in-laws, Myrtle and Bill Bodenham; his siblings, Angela Hunt, Karl and Alf; and his siblings-in-law, Bill, Jamie, Fred Bodenham, Stewart McLennan, Doug Hunt, Fran, Beth, Rita and Lois.
He is survived by: his wife Rosemary (Bodenham); his children, Stephen and Susan Schmitt; his grandchildren, Ian Chambers (Laura), Alan Chambers (Jess), Thomas, Olivia Corniel, Emma Corniel Schmitt (Tyler) and Kyle Garland (Maria); his great grandchildren, Sophia, Raelah Chambers and Vincent Garland; his brothers, Paul, Edward and Bernie; and his sisters-in-law, Marg, Jetta, Della, Joyce, Ginny and Pat. He is also survived by family of cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Henry Walser Funeral Home Ltd. (507 Frederick St, Kitchener, ON N2B2A5). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church (11 Traynor Ave, Kitchener, ON N2C1W1). A burial was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Memory Gardens Cemetery (2723 Victoria St N, Breslau, ON N0B1M0). He bowled for years on 3 teams, giving up only because of covid closures.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington (https://alzheimer.ca), Diabetes Canada, or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
