He was predeceased by: his siblings, Alfons (Hanni), Karl (Maria), Henry (Patsy), Else Franke (Rudi) and Hedwig Mackenbrock (Franz).

He is survived by: his wife Joan Tryggve; his children, Paul, Linda and Ted (Joanne Verstege); his stepchild Zohar Jordan; his grandsons, John (Mallory Caudle) and Joshua; his stepgrandsons, Christopher, David and Bryan Topley; his great grandchildren, Braxton, Cohen and Lainey; and his sisters, Marianne Nolte (Manfred) and Renate Westhues (late Bernie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins.
