He was predeceased by : his parents, George ''Pokey'' Helmer and Dorothy Helmer; his brother Robert ''Bob'' Helmer; and his brothers-in-law, Wayne McIntyre and Robert Lewis.

He is survived by : his spouse Lou Ann; his children, Jennifer Clark (John) and Jeremy Helmer (Dawn Wilson); his grandchild Karsen Clark (Bella Vaz); his siblings, Darlene McIntyre and Sandy Starling (Derryl); his siblings-in-law, Bette Millard and Elenore Helmer; and his nieces and nephews, Kevin, Kalvin, Korey Helmer, Tammy, Dwayne, Owen McIntyre, Missy Gould and Shelly Wiebe.
