He was predeceased by: his parents, Percy Bates and Clara Bates; and his daughter-in-law Karen Bates. He is survived by: his wife Muriel Bates; his children, Percy (Debbie), William (Lea) and Bonita (Ronald Desjardins); his grandchildren, Jeremy (Sheryl), Terry (Amy), Kristopher (Rita), Jennifer (Dan) and Cayleb (Emma); his siblings, Helen Larose and Stanley Bates (Bella); and his sister-in-law Eleanor (Wayne Mitchell). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
