He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Colwell and Beatrice Colwell (Douthwright); and his wife Diane Hallam. He is survived by: his sons, Christopher Hallam (Janet Boyachek), Richard Hallam (Sovia Kwan Hallam) and Randy Hallam; his grandchildren, Minka, Emily and Naomi; his sister Margaret Sherar; and his stepsiblings, Gertrude Mackay and Ralph Cummins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ALS / SLA Canada Charity in his memory.
