He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Hendrik Reitsma and Jeltje Reitsma; his wife Minh-Huong "Tina"; his children, Janet Medema (John), Harold Dykxhoorn (Teresa), Nellie DeJong (John) and Eric Dykxhoorn (Julie); and his siblings, Klaas Reitsma, Jacobus Reitsma (Trixie), Thomas Reitsma (Roxanne), Johannes Reitsma and Grietje Richtje "Greet" Reitsma Smit (Albertus Reinierus "Bertus"). He was also cherished by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
