He was predeceased by: his parents, Jakob Schmidt and Sara Schmidt (Neufeld); and his sisters, Erna Unrau and Erna Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Joan Schmidt (Mills); his children, Tracy (Lee) of Ottawa, Brent (Corrie) of Waterloo and Brad of London; his grandchildren, Liam, Noah, Cole, Claire and Carly; and his siblings-in-law, Walter Unrau and June Nixon. He is also survived by nieces, nephew and extended family and friends.
