He is survived by: his wife Wilhelmina Buesink; his sons, Rodney (Marietta Drost), David (Tina Plat) and Kenneth (Leona Vandervelde); his grandchildren, Simon, Elias (Sarah), Petra, Ardenn (Pieter), Bryce, Stacey and Melissa; and his siblings, Gremar (Case) and Anthony (Mary).

In lieu of flowers, family asks that memorial donations be made in his memory to The Alzheimer's Society Southwest Partners (alzswp.ca).

“Dear DeKoter family, Condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. I am unable to come to the visitation or memorial service on Monday to give condolences in person. I remember that Mr DeKoter was a willing servant of the Lord and I trust that he is with the Lord now and no longer suffering in any way. I have good memories of him from growing up in the same church and my parents enjoying his friendship.”
