Sono Sugie Obituary
We bid farewell to Sono Sugie of Markham, Ontario, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on May 1, 2026 at the age of 85. Sono touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Ushi Oyakawa and Tokusuke Oyakawa; her siblings, Shunichi Nakao and Keiko; and her brothers-in-law, Tsunemi Endo and Adam Hauth.
She is survived by: her children, Corey and Tamiko; and her siblings, Toki (Gladys), Tak (Kyoko) and Mieko Hauth. She is also survived by nephews, as well as her grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 6th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, May 7th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Highland Funeral Home - Markham Chapel (10 Cachet Woods Ct, Markham, ON L6C3G1). A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 7th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, May 7th 2026 from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM at the Highland Memory Gardens (33 Memory Gardens Ln, North York, ON M2H3K4).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Japanese Canadian Culture Centre Heritage Fund (https://jccc.on.ca) or the Canadian Cancer Society .
