He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Leslie Gandy and Lillian Gandy (Nash); and his sister Barbara.

The ethics and legacy of Doug and Chris live on through the Gandy Charitable Foundation, which supports dozens of meaningful causes in Canada and around the world.

“Chris and Doug were my "chosen grandparents". I met Chris when I managed the Annette Street Public Library. This cheerful outgoing woman was always borrowing books about the most interesting topics and destinations. One day she invited me to an exhibit of her travel photographs. This was the start of a beautiful friendship for me with both Chris and Doug. They opened their hearts to me. Meals, wine, camping, canoeing, discussions. I miss them both very much and treasure my memories of them.”
