She was predeceased by : her parents, Wouter Middelhof and Engelina Middelhof; her stepmother Heintje Middelhof; and her siblings, Tim Middelhof and Annette Klompe.

She is survived by : her husband Henry Van Essen; and her children, H. Martyn Van Essen (Mary), Joan TeBokkel (Derk), Walter Van Essen (Marsha) and Miriam Van Essen.
