He was predeceased by: his wife Linda Fairbairn; his parents, Stanley Fairbairn and Rosella Fairbairn; and his sister Dolores Deakin (late Ross). He is survived by: his children, Kelly Perry (Mike) of Napanee and Cindy Dillenbeck (Tim) of Napanee; his grandchildren, Allen (Rebekkah), Hailey (Johnny), Emma (Alex) and Willy; and his great grandchild Oliver. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews many other relatives and friends.

Donations in memory of Jim can be made to the Friendly Manor Nursing Home or The Sick Kids Hospital.
