He is survived by: his wife Janet Thomson Smith; his sons, Ian Philip Smith (Julia) of Rockwood and Malcolm Douglas Smith of Nepean; his nephew Nicholas Humby (Karen); his nieces, Alison Hunt (James), Rosemary Goodman, Juliet Eadon (Desmond) and Elizabeth Coombes (Peter); Dr. Sylvia June McLauchlan.
