He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Coates and Dorothy Coates; his brother Harold (Shirley Coates); his sister-in-law Margaret Coates; Dorothy Coates.
He is survived by: his sisters, Olive (Bruce Andrews) and Vera (Bruce Longfield); his wife Ethel Coates; his brother Cecil Coates; his children, Kathy Tufts (Al), Brenda Thompson (Steve), Glen Coates (Linda), Douglas Coates (Donna) and Daniel Coates; his foster daughter Gayle Tite (Larry); his daughter-in-law Desiree Coates; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Tufts (Emily), Jordan Coates (Ophra), Kahlan Bruce (Kyle), Amanda Whelan (Rob), Andrea Rozendaal (Marien), Nicole Coates, Emma Coates (Reece), Emily Stamatakis (Niko), Hannah Verdonk (Nate), Josh Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Georgia Coates, Levi Coates, Kim, Philip, Karen, Andrew and Amanda Tite. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Holt Free Methodist Church (19198 McCowan Rd, Mount Albert, ON L0G1M0). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Mount Albert Cemetery (19675 Centre St, Mount Albert, ON L0G1M0).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Holt Free Methodist Church or the Pine Orchard Camp.
