He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia 'Pat Patterson; his daughter Mary Frances Patterson; his parents, Harold Patterson and Adella Patterson; his siblings, Jack Patterson (Ruth), Ruth-Ann Doherty (Bill) and Gail Sbrizzi; and his sisters-in-law, Rita Page (Ray) and Pat Shanahan.

He is survived by: his children, Ruth-Ann Nieuwesteeg (Ed) and Sandra Smith (Brian); his grandchildren, Ryan Nieuwesteeg, Dr. Alexandra Nieuwesteeg, Trevor Smith and Daniel Smith; and his brothers-in-law, Al Sbrizzi (Mary Ann) and Leo Shanahan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
