Edward Alexander Griffith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce that Edward "Ted" Alexander Griffith died peacefully at North York General Hospital on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

Ted was the cherished husband of Charis Kelso for almost 19 years.

Beloved son of Wendy (née Waller) Griffith and the late Douglas Griffith, and dear son-in-law of Clair Kelso and the late Grace Kelso. Treasured brother of Judi Griffith-McLeod and loving brother-in-law of Richard McLeod, Felica Kelso, and Chris Jackson. Proud and loving uncle of Matthew McLeod (Anne), Michael McLeod (Sydney), Ryan McLeod (Alexie), Rhianna Jackson-Kelso (Michael), Emily Jackson-Kelso (Jordan), and Sophia Jackson-Kelso (Andrew).

Ted devoted himself wholly to the people he loved and the pursuits that brought him joy.

He was committed to lifelong learning: a proud graduate of the University of Toronto Schools, where he made lifelong friends, Western University, where he completed his BA, and Queens University, where he earned his MA.

Ted was an avid gamer who cultivated many long-term friendships over video games and board games alike. He was a formidable opponent in all word games, particularly Scrabble and Upwords, and a lover of words in general: he was witty, eloquent, adept at writing and editing, and a voracious reader. He had a brilliant sense of humour and a laugh that filled the room.

As a civil servant with the Ontario Public Service for more than 25 years, he was a consummate professional who dedicated himself to providing the best policy advice he could.

Ted was fiercely committed to his loved ones, never shy to reach out with words of encouragement or affirmation.

He was a special person with a gift for relating to those around him, who appreciated him for his thoughtfulness and compassion.

Ted will be dearly missed by all his aunts, cousins, and extended family members, particularly Elayne Horner, whom he called Aunt Cissy.

He will be lovingly remembered by work colleagues and friends alike, particularly Kosta Michalopoulos, his dear friend of more than 45 years.

For those wishing to attend, the funeral service will be held at the Turner & Porter 'Peel' Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga ON L5B 1M8 (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW, Tel. 905-412-3087) on Saturday, October 4th. Visitation at 2, funeral service at 3, reception to follow.
