It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Josephine (Yustina Shuwera) Pankiw (Oakville, Ontario), who passed away on December 31, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Michael Pankiw; her parents, Iwan Shuwera and Palahna Bogucki; and her siblings, Bill (Olga), Matt (Sophie), Mike (Vera), Marie (Jack), Steve (Doris), Anne (George), John (Sylvia), Lynn (Alan), Peter, Pauline (John), Ben (Elaine), Marko, Olga and Wilmer.
She is survived by: her sisters, Sophie (late Andy) and Elaine (Jim); her children, Steven (Lesia), John (Halyna) and Lidia (Morgan); her grandchildren, Zenon, Danya (Maxym), Lukie, Maya, Zoriana and Symon (Jenna); and her great grandchildren, Liam, Owen and Caleb. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 7th 2026 at 7:00 PM and on Thursday, January 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM. A burial was held on Thursday, January 8th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery (1280 Dundas St W, Oakville, ON L6M4H9).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dorothy Ley Hospice or to Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
