He was predeceased by: his parents, Diamantina Garcia and Jacinto Tavares; his wife Rosa DeSousa; and his siblings, Jacinto Tavares and Alexandra Tavares.
He is survived by: his children, Manny Tavares (Lucy) and Nell-Maria Benevides (John); his brothers, Jose Tavares (Osvalda) and Joao Tavares (Lourdes); and his friend Portugal.
A donation has been made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.
