Maria (Yakovenko) Sigal Obituary

Maria Sigal, (née Yakovenko) passed away peacefully at the Villages of Erin Meadows, Mississauga, in her 92nd year, on March 15, 2025. Maria was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1932 and emigrated to Canada in 1949 where she met and married her beloved husband, Joseph Sigal. Maria and Joseph were married for 52 years and lived in Oakville, Ontario until his passing in 2002.

Maria is survived by her sister, Nada Piach, and preceded in death by her brother, Michael Yakovenko. She is lovingly remembered by her two children, Michael Sigal (Joanne), Teresa Sigal Greene (Mark), her grandchildren, Matthew Sigal (Arlie Belliveau), Alison Sigal (Brian Granby) and her great-grandchildren, Huxley, Everest and Simcoe. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking and she will be remembered fondly for her kindness, selflessness and generosity.

The funeral service will be held at the Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel, at 1981 Dundas Street West, on Friday, March 21st at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at St. John's Dixie Cemetery, Mississauga. A reception will be held following the interment.
