He was predeceased by: his parents, Eric Smith and Alma Smith; his foster parents, Frank Nelson and Alice Nelson; his parents-in-law, Annie Richardson and Harrison Richardson; his brothers, Stan and Alan Smith; his sister-in-law Rita Smith; his sisters, Jean Robson and Wendy James; his brothers-in-law, Cecil Robson, Derek James, Terence Richardson and Mel Davies; and his niece Alison Borthwick.

He is survived by: his significant other Margaret; his children, Stephen, Lynn, Paul, Janette Couture (David) and Ann-Margaret Rideout (Brad); his grandchildren, Brian, Christopher (Sabrina), Matthew Green, Lindsay, Annie Nelson, Adrienne Ruos (Thea), Luke Couture (Rita Lombardi), Renee Godfrey (Zack), Tyler Rideout (Kailee) and Brandon Rideout (Rachael); his sisters, Audrey Johnson (David) and Paula Russell (George); and his sisters-in-law, Jean Richardson, Kay Davies and Tulie Richardson.
