He was predeceased by: his wife Alice; and his parents, Hazel Russell and Elmer Russell. He is survived by: his children, Karen (Stephen Orme), Linda (Barb Ball) and Laurie (Brian Heimbecker); his brother-in-law Michael Shunock (Anne); his nephew Michael Waddell (Brenda); and his niece Debbie Curry (Doug).

Donations, in memory of John may be made to the Westminster United Church (Stained Glass Restoration Project), or to the Rotary Club of Orangeville.
