He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray Simpson and Mary Simpson (Galbraith) of Orangeville Ontario; and his siblings, Sheila, Heather, Frances, Bill and Harry.

He is survived by: his wife Zita (Turcotte Paquette); his stepdaughters, Shirley-Anne Staal (Harold), Brenda Brazeau (Ronald), Suzanne Ruiter (Bert), Catherine Fortin (Renald) and Theresa Poirier (Roland); and his cousin John Houston. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
