He was predeceased by: his wives, Nancy Schram and Patricia Trimble; his parents, Douglas Speers and Margaret Speers; his siblings, James and Susan; and his grandson Lukas.
He is survived by: his daughters, Michelle and Treena; his grandchildren, Damien (Adriana), Taylor, Emily, Alexis, Jacob, Jaylyn, Cooper and Cameron; his sister Dianne; and his great grandchildren, Sahar and Gabriel.
His laboratory at Robarts uses biochemical and specialized microscopy techniques to study the basic biology of Amyloid in Alzheimer's disease and Alpha Synuclein in Lewy Body disease/Parkinson's disease. Dr. Pasternak is also working to develop blood tests for neurological diseases, including Lewy Body and Parkinson's disease, which would aid in earlier diagnosis.
