He was predeceased by: his significant other Joan Hangaard; his former wife Jean McKinney; his son Gordon John Merkley (Joan); and his siblings, Ross (Doris), Lloyd (Ilene), Shirley and Harvey (Bonnie).
He is survived by: his child Agnes Johnston (Nelson); his grandchildren, Suzanne, Tina, Nelson Jr., Lisa and Mandy; and his siblings, Bill (late Marion) and Gayle (late Bert). He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
