He was predeceased by: his wife Valerie Anne (Ponton); his parents, George Lovatt and Lily Lovatt; and his brother Garry. He is survived by: his children, Ian (Tracie), David (Melanie), Mary McAllister and Nancy (David); his grandchildren, Trisha and Adam; his great grandchild Genevieve; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Kallan and Fraser.
