He was predeceased by: his parents, Bruce Counter and Mary Counter; his brother Jake; and his wife Liz. He is survived by: his sister Pam Lyon; his nieces, Maria (Scott) and Lizzie (Kyle); his brother Bill (Karen); his siblings' children, Bill, George (Shannon), James (Joanna) and Rosemary (Jordan); his aunt Rose; and his uncles, Jack and Bauz.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 8th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mundell Funeral Home (79 West Street N, Orillia, ON L3V5C1). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, January 9th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church (235 John St S, Gravenhurst, ON P1P1H6).
