He was predeceased by: his parents, James Gibbens and Mary Gibbens of Oshawa; his siblings, Helen Huffman (Leo), Margaret Morrison (Bruce), William Gibbens, Vince Gibbens (Eileen), Elizabeth Ann and Michael; and his siblings-in-law, Roy Allan and Doreen Wood.

He is survived by: his wife Joan; his children, James Gibbens (Karisa), Michele Parkinson (Bret), Jennifer Simpson (John) and Andrea Bisenberger (Dan); his grandchildren, Jordan, Makenna, John Jr., Liam, Madelaine, Kate and Brooklyn; his siblings, Nancy Allan, Patricia Bagnall (Peter), Catherine Petre (Bob Kearnan) and Paul Gibbens (Carol); and his siblings-in-law, Laura Gibbens and Boyd Wood. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
