He was predeceased by: his spouse Harmijntjen "Hermine" Smit. He is survived by: his daughters, Janet Smit (Mick Thomas) and Joyce Cook (David); his grandchildren, John Cook (Megan), Margaret Cook and Mykayla Smit-Thomas; and his siblings, Bets Kuhn of Holland, Henk Smit of Unionville, Joyce Vanden Vis of California, Peter Smit of Aurora, Janny, Klaas, Gerrit, Wis, Margo, Samuel, Neil, Ann and Johannes.
