He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cyrus and Alma; and his siblings, Norma, Earl, Violet, Hubert, Leona, Lawrence and Bernice.
He is survived by: his brother George (Margaret); his former wife Alice; his children, Paul, Marc (Kellie), Marie and Rene (Teresa); his stepchildren, Larry (Betty), Patsy (Bernie), Diane (Terry) and Annette (Peter); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Cara, Kathryn, Isabel, Emily, Christine, Michael, Tabitha, Jennifer, Lisa, Erika, Tyler, Matthew, Stephen and Andrew; Yvonne. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Shields Funeral Homes & Chapel (1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V1A6). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the St. George's Parish (415 Piccadilly Ave, Ottawa, ON K1Y0H5). A reception will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the St George's Parish (415 Piccadilly Ave, Ottawa, ON K1Y0H5). A committal service will be held on Saturday, October 25th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Notre-Dame Cemetery (455 Montréal Rd, Ottawa, ON K1K0V3).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie's memory may be made to the Perley Health Foundation or the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
