He was predeceased by: his former wife Sharon; his parents, Stanley Ashton and Noella Ashton; and his sister Gail Hinds (late Horace). He is survived by: his wife Therese; his children, Jenifer Gardiner (Gord) and Joshua Ashton (Johanna); and his siblings, Charmaine Hill and Carl Ashton (Eva). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gary may be made to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society or Parkinson Canada.
