He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Sidney Butler and Laura Turner; his siblings, Joan (Viedge), Ruth (Hoogenhout) and Sidney Butler; his friends, Jane McIntosh and Jennifer Ring; his former wife Elizabeth Butler; his wife Marybelle Mitchell; his sons, Miles Butler, Patrick and Rob; his close friends, Janet and Beth; his daughter-in-law Terri Wylie; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Michel), Michael (Chelsea), Samantha (Bilal), Andrew (Christina), Elizabeth (Todd) and Bronwen (Rob); his great grandchildren, Thomson, Eira, Maddie, Brooks, Nettie, Layla, Oakley, Ella and Mabel; his stepsons, James and Stephen (Jennifer); his nieces and nephews, Thorne, Laura, Colin, Ruth, Kristin, Conrad, Kathy, Linda and Meesie; and also, Margot and Anna.
A passerby who happened to work for CBC came to his aid; she asked him how he was doing during COVID; his thoughtful response was on the Ottawa morning show the next day.
