He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwood Gardner and Jean Gardner; and his parents-in-law, Howard and Ilene Aitken. He is survived by: his wife Penny; his siblings, Bruce (Sheri) and Debbie (Bruce Milne); and his sisters-in-law, Judy (Tom Stobbe) and Sharon (Len Jones). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
