He was predeceased by : his parents, John Bell and Catherine Bell; his grandparents, Thomas, Florence Bell, Irving and Elvin Elvidge; and his brother-in-law Stuart McPhail.

He is survived by : his sisters, Ruth McPhail of Durham and Heather (Bjorn Andersen) of Brick; his nieces, Laura Braeker (Travis), Julie McPhail, Jeane and Sonja Andersen; his great-nieces, Sophie and Hannah; his aunt Ruth Falconer; and his uncle Ronald Bell.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Living Walkerton and District (clwalkerton.org) in memory of Derek would be greatly appreciated by the family.
