He was predeceased by: his son Jeffrey Wayne Paton; his parents, Cecil Paton and Elsie Paton (Smith); and his siblings-in-law, Clarence O'Neill (Isabel), William O'Neill and Sylvia Paton.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara J. (O'Neill); his children, Bonnie Jane and David McLinchey; his grandchildren, Stephen McLinchey (Andrea), Brian McLinchey (Shayna Kelders), Chelsey McLinchey (Matt Martin), Michael Paton and Cory Paton; his brother Dennis Paton (Esther Mawson); and his sister-in-law Dorothy O'Neill. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
