He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Smith and Grace Smith; his son Gary Smith (Mea); and his brothers, Russell (late Gwen), Bryson (late Melba) and Donald (late Patricia).

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Scott Smith, Elizabeth Rylance, Jill Stanton and Sarah Stanton; and his great grandchildren, Selma, Omar, Jack, Olivia, Emilie, Caitlin, Harrison, Owen and Lillian. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
