He was predeceased by: his former wives, Phyllis Plummer and Joan Bucholtz; his parents, James Dawson and Verda Dawson; and his siblings, Audrey Morgan (late Gerald) and Glenn Dawson (Bonnie).

He is survived by: his spouse Doreina; his son Jeffrey Dawson (Dixie); his grandchildren, Laura Thuemen (Bradley) and Evan Dawson; his great grandchild Henry Thuemen; his stepchildren, Brian, Wayne McDonald and Kelly Jarvis (Dennis); his brother Lyle Dawson (Audrey); and his friend Jack Bucholtz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
