He was predeceased by: his parents, Lorne MacDonald and Eveline MacDonald; his brothers, Arthur, Delmar and Mervin MacDonald; his former wife Nettie Kraft; his children, Kevin MacDonald and Eveline Agnes MacDonald; and his grandson Peter Hoelke.

He is survived by: his children, Valerie Schreader (Bill) and James MacDonald; his sister Fern McComb; his stepsons, Shayne Hoelke (Julanta), Fred Hoelke (Charity) and Steven Hoelke (Lana); and his grandchildren, Scott, Andrew, Holly MacDonald, Charlotte, Casey, Olivia, Theresa, Adam, Abigaile, Kagrien and Keagan Hoelke. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
