She was predeceased by: her husband James Johnston; her grandson James Johnston; her siblings, Bernie Hewie (Marion), Esther Gillespie (late Bill), Joe Hewie (late Ola), Jean Russell and Doreen Wilson; her siblings-in-law, Al Johnston (June), Mary-Jane Johnston, Edwina Edwards (late Jack), Margaret Miron (late Gerard), Dick Johnston (late Shirley), Geraldine Clysdale (Moe) and Jacqueline Johnston; and her parents, Wallace Hewie and Edna.
She is survived by: her children, Jim Johnston (June), Loraine Teatro (late Les), Elaine Forde (Robert) and Darlene Swift (late Mike); her grandchildren, Jenni Hubbert (Dave), Joe Teatro (Kelly), Tammy Moore (Randy), Katie Branscombe (Lee), Krissy LaForge (Dan), Michael Swift (Jessica), Kerri-Ann Swift (Eric) and Jeffrey Swift (Brittany); her great grandchildren, Hayley, Carter, Kolby, Callan, Hudson, Rylynn, Mieha, Cora, Payton, Jake, Luke, Brady, Teeghan, Tristan, Tinsley and Everleigh; her sibling Mickey Hewie; her siblings-in-law, Orthea Rothwell (late Jerry), Patricia Lariviere (late Jim), Andrea Piepenhagen (late John) and Kathy Brolley; and her close friends, Bonnie Young, Andrea Piepenhagen and Morley Clysdale.
Covid-19 restrictions are in place and face coverings are mandatory. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in the Highland Park Funeral Centre and is by invitation only due to covid 19 restrictions.
In memory of Merele and in lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family .
