Nissa Barnes Obituary

It is with shock and the most profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful and brave Nissa Marie Barnes on November 12, 2025, after an unexpected, short battle with cancer. Nissa was born on April 2, 1972, and is survived by her loving parents, Judith and Douglas Maynard, her beloved daughter, Ashley Marie Wilson (Mike), and big sister Candace Young (Matt). She will be deeply missed by her niece, Sabra Young, nephew Tyler Coyle-Young, her very special great-nieces, Audrey and Kaia Liddle, and her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Significant in Nissa’s life was her deep love for animals. We hope that she has been reunited with her beloved pets, Cocoa, Beans, Armani, and Nacho. She will be missed by Maya.

Nissa’s legacy is the joy she spread, almost effortlessly, wherever she went. She brightened everyone’s day… even after her prognosis. Her bravery, strength, and grace in life, and these past few weeks, have been nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Heartfelt thanks go out to Nissa’s doctors and nurses on the palliative ward at PRHC, and to the staff at Hospice Peterborough, especially Dr. Morelli. At Nissa’s request, there will be no service; the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Donations in Nissa’s honor to the Humane Society or Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated.
