He was predeceased by: his parents, Freerk Leystra and Gertje Leystra; and his siblings, Eltje Leystra, Shouke Leystra, Yense Leystra, Jochum Leystra, Ida DeGroot, Sadie Steegstre and Yantje Switinik.

He is survived by: his spouse Betty; his children, Frank Leystra (Holly), Joe Leystra, Bonnie McFarlane (Craig), Trudy Pelletier (Randy) and Rita Leystra-Williams; his grandchildren, Cheryl Leystra, Janice Leystra, Krista Mall (Kerry), Jamie Leystra (Heaven List), Trina Walz (Marcus), Becky Carter (Allan), Tyler Pelletier (Randi-Mae), Caitlin Pelletier, Justin Williams (Trish Scott), Michelle Hicks (Josh) and Ashley Williams (Trevor Couture); his siblings, Pearl Van Luit and Frank Leystra (Sandy); and his sisters-in-law, Barb Leystra, Minke Leystra and Willie Leystra.
